Someone remind me...I don't remember this stage in life! Lindsey sure is teaching me new things everyday. Mostly patience and the importance of persistent communication. At 20 months she has developed new "loves" or as I like to call them, "pet peeves!"
1. Everything is all the sudden scary...except for the car rides now(facing forward..she says, "FUN!"). She often runs to me hollering, "Scared!" when she sees something, hears something...or when Hailey's chasing her. So we have focused on saying a prayer that Lindsey repeats: "Jesus, take my fears AWAY!" We tend to say that alot. (Wish I had a video that I could share...it's so cute.)
2. Spitting...ugh! Where so got this, I have no idea! She likes to pretend to spit her toothpaste out just like Hailey...but now it has turned into an issue. Especially in public. Yes, broccoli is very hard to clean up after being chewed up & spit out...my apologies to everyone at Applebee's! Broccoli is her favorite food, but now it has turned into fun & games...all it took was one laugh from the booth next to us...thanks. So car ride lessons have begun...in which both kids have to repeat after me: "Ladies do NOT spit!"
Now, for any of you that know my 5 year old, Hailey...you probably know where this is going. You gotta love the honesty of a young child... After drilling into their little heads that...say it with me, "Ladies do NOT spit", we we're in...public. Oh yes. As we were entering a store, a woman was standing near the door and...yep, spit. So, as a mom of a very animated, outspoken little girl...I tried like, you know what, to enter the store at high speeds...but before we could make our way, Hailey's pointer finger sprung and out came, "Mom! She's NOT a Lady!!" Ugh...luckily, I was able to redirect the conversation and ever so gently pull Hailey through the door, before the woman caught a glimpse of us...I think.
So, I guess our next car ride lesson will revert back to manners...it's a never ending cycle! But one day, I'm sure they'll remember these repetitive car ride lessons. Even when they act like they're not listening...it's hard not to in a 6 x 6 space. (#speakingfromexperience)
3. Now, you're probably wondering about the bobby pin. Lindsey's newest and most favorite phrase is, "Shut Tha Dar!"...followed by the action. I'm just waiting on her little fingers to get pinched.
So...while the Easter Bunny was prepping the baskets this morning...she(yes, the Easter Bunny is a she...) heard little footsteps running down the hallway and quickly stepped out to redirect Lindsey's steps the other way. Now, the Easter Bunny was not very smart and left the "locked" door cracked while distracting Lindsey which failed...and sure enough..."Shut Tha Dar!" Oops. The Easter Bunny was locked out of the bedroom with all the Easter paraphernalia spread across the bed. Googling how to unlock a door was too disturbing, so reverted to texting Chris instead...after trying to jam a nail and a toothpick in the pin hole...nothing worked and it was time to leave for Hailey's dance class. Luckily, dance mom conversations led to my story and one of the girls that works at Floyd Ward pulled a bobby pin from her hair and handed it to me. Said it works like a charm...and it sure did! It looks as though we will be investing in bobby pins!
Needless to say, the Easter Bunny is ready and has time to rest...

Let's not forget the real reason for Easter though...thank goodness we have a Savior! Which brings to mind another car ride lesson/discussion. Okay, last one. Hailey and I were talking about the talents/gifts that God gives everyone and which ones He gave us. Hailey says:
He gave me the talent of dancing
He gave Lindsey the talent of watching TV
He gave you(mommy)the talent of washing dishes
and He gave daddy the talent of Love.
How sweet...how did I get stuck with washing dishes and daddy got love?! Anyway, we quickly changed a few things and gave Lindsey the talent of sharing and I have the talent of helping others...there, that's better.
Happy Easter to everyone!
