This Christmas has definitely been an eye opener in many ways. Chris was laid off from his job(he had for 9 years...and might I say, was their best worker #bitter #blessing in disguise), Hailey's been asking many questions about Santa and the Elf on the shelf and I'm not ready to have that talk with her. My goodness, she just 5! I find it hard to believe that kids in kindergarten don't believe and run and tell their classmates. I never want to lie to my girls, because I want to set a good example of honesty so they know they always know they can talk to me about anything. Well, it first started with a new tradition that maybe I should not have started. The elf on the shelve.
Oh yes. The stare down...Fred the elf finished off Hailey's halloween candy because she had a dentist appt and he didn't want to her end up with caivities. After a few minutes, Hailey said, "he's not real! He's painted just like Pinocchio!" Well, what do you say? I'm learning to think fast on my feet...I have a smart little girl!
My answer:
"Hailey, sometimes around holidays, people like to believe in all kinds of things, decorate and play games...so it can be fun. But even though the elf may not be a real boy, he brings alot of real and true meaning to our house. You can see him and that's a great reminder that someone IS always watching you to make sure you're always doing the right thing. They're are angels everywhere and Jesus and God...they live in our house, our hearts and even after Christmas, they are always with us. So the elf just makes you remember those thing... and it's a fun game too."
So now the elf has a permanent seat next to Santa in his sleigh. Hailey and Lindsey both glance in that direction every now and then...
As for Santa, they love him! Hailey began asking a few questions due to some little boys in her class telling her that he wasn't real...I hate that! I'm not ready to have that talk with Hailey, but I know it's coming so I've been researching. But until then, I'm enjoying every magical moment this holiday!
I took the girls to Tanglewood Mall to visit Santa after the requests for a Pink Poodle & Unicorn Cuddluppet was made official. Thank goodness for the decor, ice cream trunk and carousel because we arrived during his break...of course.
But in spite of our wait, we sure did enjoy watching Santa make an appearance, hollering "HO HO HO!!" as he descended on the escalator!
Both girls twirled around and starting yelling, "Santa! It's Santa!...Hi Santa!" along with the rest of the kids(including me...yes, I was excited too!)
As I recall, last year Lindsey wasn't too happy to see Santa, but complied as long as I sat on his lap too, so I was wondering how she would do this year. She surprised and awed us all...yes, everyone in line was "awe'ing" at how much Lindsey adored Santa this year!
Here's Hailey explaining to Santa what a Cuddluppet is...so cute. She takes after me but talking with her hands.
I couldn't help but try to capture some of these moments on my phone/camera but promised the photographer that I would purchase one as well, even though I love capturing "in the moment" photos better...
Lindsey's newest way to smile for the camera is squinting, and turning her head, so here's what I get for saying, "Lindsey! Open your eyes and show your teeth!" right before he snapped the picture...
Merry Christmas!
